Million Pound Matchup Essay

Alice and I are great friends. We have developed a relationship during the past few years. Alice’s husband and I are both firefighters. Alice is our #1 Fan. We both have a passion for watching The Biggest Loser. During conversations we decided it was time to quit “watching” and start “doing.” Then with the introduction of the Million Pound Match-Up, we knew Bob and Jillian were really talking to us through the television. Jillian made us get off our “asses” and Bob has really helped us see that we are worth it. We both have health problems that can be corrected with diet and exercise. There is nobody better for me to have as a partner. She understands that when duty calls I’m out the door and finding time to take care of myself is difficult because I’m constantly taking care of others first. Alice is a very active stay at home mom who has put her family before her health. She doesn’t get much free time with a husband who works full times and serves his community as a volunteer firefighter. She understands my busy schedule as a teacher and a volunteer firefighter and supports me daily through phone calls, emails, and warm thoughts. We call each other daily to make sure we both know we’re worth the change. We feel that we should win this contest because how much we are changing to be healthier not only for ourselves, but for our families, friends, fellow firefighters, and students. Alice and I are a great team and we can’t wait to actually see the live finale of The Biggest Loser in our healthy new bodies and little black dresses. © 01/04/08

Superbowl Weighin

It sucked!  I gained 1.4 lbs, but I know why and I know what I have to do to get it off.  Tomorrow at the gym gonna work hard and journal, drink that water...cut back on the Diet coke...shame, up to 3 cans a day again.  I was so sick last week also.  couldn't hold my head up off the pillow.  I think I am much better.

Something to definately reflect upon!

I can't keep up...

HELP!!!!!  I can't keep up.  No, I am not talking about my changing the living healthy, drinking water, exercising and journaling. I am talking about the myspace live space.  I feel so overwhelemed.  You see, one of the things that I had to change was NOT to be online so much.  I just sat here in this chair and did not move.  I probably gained 10 lbs just SITTING! Isn't this what made us fat in the first place...EATING and NO EXERCISE?   So...I promised myself no more than a few minutes at a time.  Look at me I have already been online for 10 min.  So here's my
question for you.  If you spend all of your time online when do you take care of you?  

 I can answer it....we are NOT taking care of us.  We are taking care of our internet habit.  It's just as addictive as eating and are you eating?  When you sit at the computer do you find you want to munch while you surf?  Anyways, I don't mean to be harsh, I do it to, just trying to cut back but in the meantime  it's just overwhelming to keep up with everyone on myspace live.   So............if you read my blog and are our friends....this is for you........because I don't have time to visit each site, I wish you luck and I KNOW YOU CAN DO IT!!!

Monday Weighin

Weigh in the morning and I felt like, what did I do all week.  Let's see...
Exercise M, W, T, T, F, S...took Sunday off...just getting out in this weather was hard
Journal...every day
Stayed within my point range
Water, drank more than the required 8 glasses each day
 
I only lost 1 lb today.
 
This week...do the same, it will pay off in the end.

Checking IN....Alice

Hello fellow LOSERS!  Yes we are on our way down and it feels good.  Katie stopped in yesterday and before you knew it, it was time for her to leave.  She had a blog but somthing happen.  Guess she will blog again later. 
We're suppose to use examples of how we help each other....well K was walking through the local grocery and of course you know what's after the produce section...the BAKERY!  She calls and we talk till she has completed her walk to the meat and can goods.  Why don't they put the bakery in the back of the store?  You would get more exercise walking to get that Pecan Roll with the carmel icing and nuts, drizzled in Chocolate.  Can you tell I have had it one to many times?   Any who...not right now.  I will get it when I most desire it.
 
Katie and I have been working out and doing great.  She works out at a different gym than I do and she goes  in the morning and afternoon.  Me...just the morning.  I did however meet with a friend this morning and when I took my son to PT (gym is in same building) I went and met my daughter and her friends and did 30 more min of cardio.  Hey gotta get it in when you can.  Tomorrow is Pilates class....I am wondering if I will ever be able to lift my tushy off the mat and put my feet over my head, like the instructor does.  She has informed me I will in time....LOL.
 
So tonight for dinner I fixed as I call it.
 
Three Amigos Chili
 

1 T olive oil

1 small onion

1 pound ground turkey breast

1 can diced tomatoes with jalapenos

1 can each...garbanzo beans, black beans, and kidney beans, drained and rinsed

1 can (14 oz) low-sodium chicken broth or vegetable broth

1/4 t salt

1/4 t cumin

1/8 t cinnamon

1/8 t cayenne

Heat oil on med heat.  Add onion and sauté until soft.  Add turkey and brown about 5 min. Add tomatoes with juice and add beans (drained and rinsed), broth and spices.  Stir and bring to boil, then reduce heat and simmer 20 or more min.

 

Servings as is:  6
